development of our digipak

When designing the digipak, I looked into what the basic template for a digipak was, this allowed me to know what the correct dimensions of a digipak are swell as how the layout should done. The   is told me how the front page and back page are next to each other with the spine in between.

This is the barcode we used on the back page of the digipak, we knew that all digipaks had a barcode on the back and we there found found an image of a fake barcode to use.

This is the background that was used on the inside right page and as the background of the back page. This image was chosen as we felt it fit in well with the style of the group and the look we wanted it to have.

The images above are of the progression of the digipak cover, we experimented with different fonts, title sizes and colours. We decided that the font needed to be sharp and contrast well with the background, this is why the top 3 images were changed as the title is very difficult to see as well as not being attention grabbing which an album cover needs to be. The next 3 image were of the progress made as the fonts and images became more visible and bold. We decided that having a shape was a good idea but this could not be so big to block lots of the pictures. Then we focused on the font for the title, we finally decided on Monoton as it was bold as well as being a stylish font that had an interesting look.

This is the image of our record label. After looking at various digipaks it became clear that the logo of the record company needed to be on the back cover of the digipak as well as on the spine, this is why we included it on both. We followed conventions by including this as it is an integral part of any digipak.

These are the conventions for the spine of a digipak, we followed these when designing the spine as we wanted it to be perfect and include all of the aspects needed. We then followed all of the conventions as well as developing a few to produce our final spine for the digipak.

This is the blank template that we had for the inside covers of the digipak. We chose the left picture to be the one used for the message as it not only shows the group as a whole but also shows their organic look. The graffiti adds to the groups indie look as well as making them more authentic. The right side is the background we used for the page where the CD would go, we inserted a circle to fill the space of the CD so we could see how the spacing and appearance would look.
This was the image we were going to use as the inside cover, however we decided against this as well felt it did not match the image of the group, as well as the fact it created a negative image of the band and associated them with drugs, which is not the image we wanted to create.

We decided to include a message on the inside cover of the digipak. This was done as it shows the band as being appreciative of the fans and the record label for supporting them. This allows the band to seem like they are aware of how lucky they are and that they do not take anything for granted.

This image shows the image we put onto the CD, we did this so that this could also be sold as coloured vinyl and therefore advance the image of the group. It also shows the progression we made as we decided to include an image on the actual CD.

The two images above are the final digipak that we made. We felt that this was the best outcome we could've had. The final design follows all of the conventions we looked at for digipaks and also incorporates some additional ideas that we thought of.
