Over time, MJ has changed his image, he went from being the lead in a group of 8, to becoming a solo artist. At the start of his career, he was in the Jackson Five however branched out and went solo years later. MJ washable to develop one of the most successful solo careers ever by developing his trademark sound and image. His two singles Thriller and Beat It were considered as ground breaking. However his star image changed from being pleasant and energetic to more freakish and self-indulgent. It told people that he had never grown up and behaved this way. As a child he was considered to be a great talent but once he became an adult, it was clear he never grew up. His ethnicity was also an issue as he was considered to have completely changed ethnicity. However after all of this, he is still talked about and he is still a star. Narratives of an artist are more about what businesses want from them, it is seen by some that music videos are the only way to control his image.
