analysis of music labels

Our bands music label:

This was the label we chose to represent our band. They are a small independent UK record company. They are owned by Alan Fitzpatrick. The label uses a variety of people for work on a freelance and casual basis. The label specialises in new rock bands and has been working with them since 2006.

Artists represented by this label:

Body Hound:

Active since 2013, the band has 4 members and focuses on instrumental rock. Their debut album Rhombus Now in late 2014.

Svalbard:

Active since 2011, the genre they focus on is post-metal and they have influenced other genres such as black metal and post-rock.

Indie Music Label:

 Founded in 1993 by Laurence Bell and Jacqui Rice. The label focuses on various genres of music such as American Rock and unusual British music. The label is an independent UK label. They have become larger and more popular in recent years after big releases from various artists that have catalysed their success.

Arctic Monkeys:

This band has 4 members and is focused in the indie rock, post-punk revival and garage rock genres. The group has been active since 2002,  has won seven Brit awards and has been nominated for three Grammy's. They won the Mercury prize in 2006 for their debut album. They changed the way in which news bands were found and marketed as they gained attention via the internet. 

Fat White Family:

This band has 6 members and is focused in the post-punk and experimental rock genre. They have been active since 2011 and their newest single Breaking into Aldi released in August 2016.

Normal Record Label:

Originally founded in 1929 under the name of American Record Corporation. They are a subsidiary of Sony Entertainment. The company owns various other labels that are focused in nearly every genre there is, these include Ministry of Sounds in the dance/electric genre and RCA Records Nashville that focus on the country genre. In 2016 it was found that Sony Music gathered 27.5% of the total corporate market share worldwide.

Beyoncé:

Represented by Parkwood Entertainment, a subsidiary of Sony Music. Active since 1997 and focused in the R&B and Pop genres. Has sold over 17 million albums in the US and over 100 million worldwide. 4 of her singles are some of the best-selling singles of all time. She has a net worth of $290 million and has won and been nominated for numerous awards such as Grammy's.

The Chainsmokers:

Active since 2012, The Chainsmokers focus on the EDM and Pop genres. They are represent by Distributor, a subsidiary of Sony Music. The group has two members but used to have three. Their debut studio album was released in early 2017. Their song 'Don't let me down' was a top 5 single and won a Grammy award for best dance recording.
